Best practices for Alleo board design

This guide provides a set of guidelines to assist an Alleo creator when designing board content taking into consideration performance to ensure a great end user experience.

Asset Management

  • Compress images for web-based presentations (i.e. jpg provide a smaller file size vs. png).

  • Be mindful of the amount of assets uploaded and stored within your Alleo boards. Depending on your license agreement, storage space may become limited due to unnecessary asset storage.

Asset Limitations

  • While animated GIFs can be used within an Alleo board, understand that no object actions can be assigned to them. In addition, you cannot annotate on an animated GIF

  • Large files (i.e. digital graphics, videos and documents) may cause performance issues.

Slide Management

  • When setting a slide background, use images sized to the exact dimensions of the slide's width and height (e.g., if using a 1920x1080 slide, ensure images are sized 1920x1080).

  • It is not recommended to use a video as a slide background since this consumes system (computer) resources.

Board Management

While Alleo provides an infinite canvas, the amount of content on the board impacts the board's graphic performance.

  • For large boards (i.e. large amount of slides/locations), best practices include the following:

    • Disabling the pan transition between slides (use instant or fade transitions)

    • Consider consolidating slides by utilizing object actions. For example, instead of 5 slides with an asset on each, use one slide with 5 buttons to display the 5 assets in a single container.

  • While Alleo promotes freeform collaboration with it's ability to annotate on the infinite canvas (as well as on certain assets), a large number of annotations can cause performance issues.

Video Management

  • When creating videos to be added to Alleo board, optimize the video file for a web application. A video file that has been uploaded to an Alleo board can be viewed simultaneously by ALL participants (remotely and in room).

  • When a video does not need to sync between multiple users in a board, consider embedding the videos from a streaming service (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo). In this case, the video playback is not synchronized between users. This helps with conserving Alleo file space and preserving CPU resources.

  • When conducting a hybrid presentation using video files, best practices include:

    • Limiting the amount of video files utilized in a single board.

    • Limiting the a video file to a reasonable resolution and duration to avoid playback issues.

    • Not setting videos to auto-start in containers that are not essential to the experience.

Alleo Rooms

  • When sharing a board to a display running Alleo Rooms, share with "Owner" permissions for optimal compatibility with object actions.
